Ray Ban Metas, S24
Good
- No more earphone pain yay!
- Cool style, name brand I already like and other people recognize
- A great conversation starter
- Relatively nondescript
- Great call quality
- Meta AI is nice, it could be vastly improved to be conversational but not bad for an early release
- Translations are really cool for Spanish, French
- Take more photos, livestream
Bad
- If you have other bluetooth connected devices like headphones, your car, or microphones, you quickly realize that the Metas might one device too many. Many issues with music playback when you're also using CarPlay. The music doesn't play, it plays through your glasses vs the car. Some require entire system restarts.
- The metas are freezing up (seriously) every month or so. They work find mostly until one day you get a random solid orange light for 5 days and none of the controls respond.
- Additionally, almost every month, the glasses need to get repaired with your phone because something gets confused, particularly when you're switching between BLE devices because your phone can't keep audio output straight.
- Proper framing is downright impossible and I don't know why. There's something going on with the app trying to crop the photo or the glasses focusing on the wrong subject. I've straight up look dead center at a person and the glasses capture then on the far left edge.
- Is it just me or is consistent audio quality like impossible to achieve. I'm constantly increasing or lowering the volume in between calls and apps and videos and music. Why?
- Adds 1 more button click when accepting a call. Actually I don't get why I can't accept it from the glasses alone! Right now I have to take out my phone and select the metas before the call can be accepted or it goes through. Woops!
- Touch is nice but I only ever use it for volume control and pause/play. Could have been a button. The touch, while cool, actually makes it too easy to accidentally activate the phone (kids love doing this), except on purpose. Also if the volume controls is #5 were fixed, then you wouldn't need to try to swipe multiple times to lower the volume.
- You used to be able to activate Hey Meta from anyone regardless of the wearer
- Any request drains about 3% of charge at a time it seems.
- If you lose your glasses case you're screwed, you only ever have 1 extra you can order. It used to be the most useless part of glasses and now I freak out whenever I don't have it. It'd be great to have location awareness for this piece.
- I'd 100% use this to take notes, or log more information if it were possible. There's something about not talking into my phone for notes that gives me more of a personal assistant feel.
- No 3rd party or developer support! I'd love to tool around in this thing.
